Data Engineer – Power BI, Integrations & Automation

Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric, Power BI & Integrations

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday; client is in Sydney, and this requires some overlap with Australian business hours, but there is flexibility in the schedule; day shift.
  • Setup: Permanent work from home

About Us

We're an Australian credit-licensed lender that helps homeowners aged 55 and over use the equity they've built in their home, without selling it or moving out. Our customers use the money to renovate, travel, help their children buy a first home, pay for aged care, or simply have more to live on in retirement.

We lend from age 55, younger than most providers in our market, and we lend against investment and holiday properties as well as the family home. Loans run from $50,000 to $5 million, with no monthly repayments and a guarantee that customers never owe more than their property is worth.

More and more of our loans come through partners: mortgage brokers, financial planners, accountants, lawyers and aged care providers. Our job is to make every one of those partners look good in front of their client, so they keep coming back.

You'll work directly with our Australian leadership team on systems and processes we're still building. Good ideas get used here, and the people who bring them grow with the business.

The role

We want one engineer who can own how data moves through our business. Microsoft Fabric is the centre of our data platform. You'll build the pipelines in Fabric that feed Power BI, connect our lending system, CRM, finance and telephony platforms through APIs, and automate the manual work that slows our team down. You'll write real code to do it, not just configure tools.

This is a broad role with real ownership. You won't be one of fifty engineers maintaining someone else's warehouse. You'll design a lot of it yourself, with direct access to the Australian leaders who use what you build.

What you'll do

Data engineering on Microsoft Fabric

  • Build and run ETL pipelines in Microsoft Fabric that pull data from our lending system and CRM into Power BI
  • Write fast, clean SQL for reports and data models
  • Design and manage our Fabric lakehouse and warehouse so reporting is easy and reliable
  • Make sure business users always have accurate, up-to-date reports
  • Catch and fix duplicate, wrong or missing data before it reaches a dashboard

System integration and APIs

  • Connect our SaaS platforms using APIs and middleware
  • Write simple API wrappers to move data between systems
  • Handle real-time updates through webhooks
  • Integrate core banking, loan origination, CRM and telephony systems
  • Example: build a connector between our customer portal and payments system so transactions process without manual handling

Automation and workflows

  • Automate approvals, notifications and data entry with Power Automate, Azure Logic Apps and similar tools
  • Use RPA for repetitive tasks such as document processing
  • Map and improve workflows for lending and risk assessment
  • Set up event-triggered data syncs between systems

Security and compliance

  • Set up role-based access so people only see the data they should
  • Keep data handling in line with Australian financial services regulation
  • Log who accesses and changes data
  • Plan backups and disaster recovery for critical financial data
  • Follow strong cloud security practice in everything you build

Software engineering

  • Write clean, tested, version-controlled code for pipelines and integrations
  • Build small services, such as Azure Functions, where off-the-shelf connectors fall short
  • Use Git, code reviews and CI/CD to deploy changes safely
  • Build in logging, error handling and monitoring so problems surface before users notice

What you'll need

  • 3+ years in data engineering, BI development or integration work
  • Strong SQL and hands-on Power BI: data modelling, DAX, Power Query, performance tuning
  • Hands-on Microsoft Fabric: lakehouses, warehouses, Data Factory pipelines and notebooks
  • Software engineering skills: Python plus another language such as C# or TypeScript, Git, automated testing and CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
  • Experience with REST APIs, webhooks and OAuth 2.0
  • Hands-on Power Automate or Azure Logic Apps
  • Working knowledge of Azure, Entra ID and role-based access control
  • Clear written English. You'll explain technical work to non-technical managers in Australia

Nice to have: experience in lending, banking or financial services; Azure Data Factory, Synapse or dbt; HubSpot integrations; OutSystems or RPA tools; Microsoft certifications such as DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer), DP-600 or PL-300.

Why you'll like it here

  • Permanent work from home, day shift, weekends off
  • Wide scope across data, integration and automation, so you build skills most single-track roles don't give you
  • Your work goes straight into how an Australian lender runs, and you'll see the effect
  • Direct line to decision-makers, not a ticket queue
  • Hands-on work with Microsoft Fabric, one of the most in-demand skills in data right now
