Expert Developer – AI-Assisted Development

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM AEST, with 1 hours unpaid break (40 hours per week).

Our clients use FlowAML, our compliance platform, every day to verify buyers and sellers involved in property transactions. As part of our small technical team, you will play an important role in maintaining, improving, debugging, and expanding the platform.

We are looking for an Expert Developer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with advanced, practical expertise in AI-assisted development.

This is not simply a traditional development role. We are particularly interested in developers who have embraced AI as a core part of their daily engineering workflow and are highly proficient with tools such as Claude Code and other AI coding tools.

About the Role

You will work across the existing FlowAML platform as well as the development of new applications, features, integrations, and tools.

A significant part of the role involves triaging issues raised by internal teams, investigating problems, identifying root causes, implementing fixes, and testing changes across the frontend and backend.

You will also take requirements and turn them into working software — from understanding the requirement and planning the solution through to development, testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement.

We are looking for someone who can use Claude Code and AI development tools at an expert level, not simply someone who has experimented with AI coding.

The successful candidate will ideally use AI coding tools every day as part of their normal development workflow and understand how to use them effectively for complex software engineering tasks while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, testing, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Develop and maintain production web applications across frontend and backend systems.
• Build new applications and features on top of the existing FlowAML platform.
• Develop integrations, internal tools, APIs, workflows, and supporting applications.
• Take requirements and translate them into practical, scalable technical solutions.
• Work across the full development lifecycle from requirements through to implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
• Investigate and improve existing functionality and code.
• Refactor code where required to improve performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Take ownership of development tasks from start to finish.

AI-Assisted Development – Expert Level

• Use Claude Code extensively as part of your daily development workflow.
• Demonstrate advanced proficiency with Claude Code and other AI coding/development tools.
• Use AI to understand and navigate large or unfamiliar codebases.
• Use Claude Code to investigate bugs, identify potential root causes, develop solutions, refactor code, and create tests.
• Use AI coding agents for complex, multi-step development tasks rather than only generating small snippets of code.
• Use AI to accelerate development of new applications and features.
• Use AI for code reviews, debugging, documentation, technical investigation, test generation, and refactoring.
• Develop effective prompts, instructions, context, and workflows to get high-quality results from AI coding tools.
• Know when to allow AI to take the lead on implementation and when human engineering judgment is required.
• Review, validate, test, and improve AI-generated code before it reaches production.
• Identify incorrect, inefficient, insecure, or incomplete AI-generated solutions.
• Continuously improve your AI-assisted development workflow and identify new ways AI can improve engineering productivity.

Debugging & Triage

• Investigate issues raised by internal teams.
• Reproduce problems and identify the underlying technical cause.
• Debug frontend, backend, API, database, and application issues.
• Implement fixes where appropriate.
• Clearly document issues that require further investigation or involvement from other team members.
• Keep the person who raised an issue informed throughout the process.
• Identify recurring problems and recommend technical improvements to prevent them from happening again.

Requirements & Implementation

• Understand business requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
• Ask the right questions when requirements are unclear or incomplete.
• Break larger requirements into practical development tasks.
• Determine the appropriate technical approach before implementation.
• Use Linear to manage development tasks, issues, priorities, and workflow.
• Keep Linear tickets updated with relevant progress, findings, technical notes, and outcomes.
• Take responsibility for delivering requirements through to completion.
• Consider edge cases and potential failure points before implementation.

Testing & Quality

• Write automated tests alongside development work.
• Create and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Thoroughly test new features and bug fixes before deployment.
• Validate AI-generated code through appropriate testing and review.
• Investigate and resolve regressions and failed tests.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Communication & Collaboration

• Work closely with internal teams to understand issues and requirements.
• Explain technical causes and solutions clearly to non-technical colleagues.
• Provide concise and useful updates through Linear and other team communication channels.
• Document important technical decisions and solutions.
• Work independently while knowing when an issue needs to be escalated.
• Contribute ideas for improving the platform and development processes.

Required Skills & Experience

Software Development

• Strong professional experience building and maintaining production web applications.
• Strong full-stack development capability across both frontend and backend.
• Strong experience with C#, .NET 6+, ASP.NET Core Web API, and Entity Framework Core.
• Strong experience with React and TypeScript.
• Solid SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQL.
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases, application architecture, debugging, testing, and software engineering principles.
• Experience building new applications or significant features from requirements through to production.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot complex issues across multiple layers of an application.

AI Development – Critical Requirement

• Expert-level practical experience with Claude Code.
• Claude Code should be a regular, preferably daily, part of your development workflow.
• Strong experience using AI to build, debug, refactor, test, and understand software.
• Experience using AI coding agents to complete complex development tasks.
• Strong knowledge of other AI development tools and the ability to select the appropriate tool for a particular task.
• Ability to effectively structure prompts, provide context, review AI output, and guide AI through multi-step engineering tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI to significantly accelerate development without sacrificing software quality.
• Strong understanding of when AI-generated code needs to be challenged, modified, rewritten, or rejected.
• Ability to independently verify AI-generated code through testing, code review, and engineering judgment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate how AI has changed and improved the way they develop software.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an Expert Developer who is highly effective in the modern AI-assisted development environment.

Traditional software development experience is important, but years of experience alone are not what we are measuring.

We want someone who can demonstrate genuine expertise in using Claude Code and AI development tools as part of their everyday engineering workflow.

You should be able to take a requirement, understand the problem, use AI effectively to investigate and accelerate the development process, make sound technical decisions, implement the solution, test it thoroughly, and deliver reliable production-ready software.

You should also be comfortable entering an unfamiliar codebase, using Claude Code to quickly understand it, identifying the cause of a problem, implementing a solution, and validating the result.

The key differentiator for this role is not simply how long you have been coding — it is how effectively you can combine strong engineering judgment with advanced AI-assisted development.
