Overview
Our client is looking for a detail-oriented QA Engineer (Desktop Applications) to perform manual functional testing for .NET-based productivity applications that bring agentic AI into everyday work and creative workflows. In this role, you will split your testing focus roughly evenly between Windows and macOS, covering both Intel and Apple Silicon hardware. You will author structured test plans, report defects with high precision, and work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure cross-platform reliability. Additionally, you will leverage AI coding agents like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex to refine test cases, investigate bugs, and streamline your testing tasks. This remote position offers the opportunity to directly shape product quality within a collaborative, globally distributed environment.
Schedule:
- 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM US Eastern Time, Pasadena
Responsibilities
- Perform manual functional testing of desktop applications on Windows 10/11 and macOS, including Intel and Apple Silicon hardware.
- Develop test plans and cases from product specifications, UI walkthroughs, and exploratory testing.
- Maintain structured CSV or spreadsheet test plans with clear descriptions, reproduction steps, expected results, and pass/fail criteria.
- Refine AI-generated test plans by removing duplication, adding edge cases, improving expected outcomes, and organizing cases for effective execution.
- Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex to explore codebases, develop and refine test cases, investigate defects, and automate repetitive QA work.
- Document bugs with precise reproduction steps, severity classifications, screenshots, and relevant logs; collaborate with engineers on triage and resolution.
- Clone repositories, switch branches, pull and build specific commits, and manage issues and merge requests in GitLab.
- Test complex desktop interactions, including multi-window workflows, drag-and-drop, modal dialogs, system tray and menu bar behavior, and installation flows.
- Validate platform-specific behavior, including Windows Shell Extensions, registry interactions, NSIS installers, macOS .app bundles, Info.plist file associations, and native title-bar behavior.
- Test Microsoft 365 integrations, including Outlook Classic and modern Outlook.
- Communicate testing progress, defects, and clarification requests through Microsoft Teams and GitLab.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of manual functional testing experience with desktop applications.
- Hands-on testing experience on both Windows and macOS.
- Access to Windows 10/11 machines and both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs for cross-platform verification.
- Experience authoring detailed, structured test plans and test cases in CSV or spreadsheet formats.
- Practical, day-to-day experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex for QA-related work.
- Ability to critically review and substantially improve AI-generated test plans rather than relying on them without validation.
- Working knowledge of Git, including cloning repositories, switching branches, pulling changes, and building specific commits.
- Familiarity with GitLab issues and merge requests.
- Ability to produce clear, actionable bug reports with reproduction steps, severity, screenshots, and logs.
- Confidence testing complex desktop UI patterns, platform-specific integrations, and installer behavior.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Outlook Classic, and modern Outlook.
- Strong written English and proficiency with Microsoft Teams and GitLab for collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Python experience for test automation, scripting, and QA tooling.
- Experience testing Microsoft Entra authentication and OAuth sign-in flows.
- Experience testing AI or LLM-based chat products.
- Additional installer-validation experience with NSIS on Windows and .app/.dmg distribution on macOS.
Independent Contractor Perks
- Permanent work from home
- Immediate hiring
- Health Insurance Coverage for eligible locations
