About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Technician with strong hands-on expertise in automotive diagnostics and vehicle battery systems.
This is a specialised technical role for an automotive professional who can confidently diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair hybrid and electric vehicles, with particular strength in identifying faults within electrical, electronic, battery, and high-voltage systems.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience using advanced automotive diagnostic equipment, interpreting diagnostic results, and working with hybrid and EV battery systems. Strong knowledge of electric drivetrains, charging systems, inverters, vehicle electronics, and high-voltage safety will also be highly valued.
As hybrid and EV technology continues to develop, the successful candidate should be technically curious, adaptable, and committed to keeping their skills and knowledge up to date.
Key Responsibilities
Automotive Diagnostics
- Perform advanced diagnostics on hybrid and electric vehicles to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
- Use professional diagnostic scanners and manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment to investigate vehicle issues.
- Interpret diagnostic codes, system data, and test results to determine the root cause of faults.
- Diagnose complex issues across battery, electrical, electronic, drivetrain, and charging systems.
- Carry out system testing and verification following repairs.
- Document diagnostic findings and recommended repair solutions accurately.
Battery Systems & High-Voltage Components
- Diagnose, inspect, test, and repair hybrid and EV battery systems.
- Troubleshoot battery-related faults, performance issues, and system warnings.
- Work with high-voltage battery packs, battery management systems (BMS), and associated components.
- Diagnose issues involving battery charging, energy management, and power delivery.
- Follow appropriate high-voltage safety procedures when inspecting, servicing, or repairing EV systems.
- Identify when battery components or related electrical systems require repair or replacement.
Hybrid & EV Servicing and Repairs
- Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Repair and replace components associated with electric drivetrains, battery systems, charging systems, and vehicle electronics.
- Diagnose and repair issues involving electric motors, inverters, converters, and related systems.
- Perform vehicle inspections and safety checks.
- Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Technical & Workshop Support
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer service information.
- Assist with troubleshooting complex electrical and electronic vehicle systems.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Keep the workshop and diagnostic equipment organised and in good working condition.
- Stay informed about emerging hybrid and EV technologies, diagnostic methods, and battery developments.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians and provide technical assistance where required.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on automotive technician experience, with demonstrated experience working on hybrid and/or electric vehicles.
- Strong practical experience in automotive diagnostics and fault finding.
- Hands-on experience diagnosing and working with vehicle battery systems, particularly hybrid or EV high-voltage batteries.
- Strong understanding of:
- Hybrid vehicle systems
- Electric vehicle systems
- High-voltage battery systems
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Electric drivetrains
- Charging systems
- Vehicle electrical and electronic systems
- Proficiency with professional automotive diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.
- Ability to interpret diagnostic data, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of high-voltage safety procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Fluent in English, with the ability to clearly communicate technical information.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a technical team.
Highly Advantageous Experience
- Extensive experience diagnosing EV and hybrid battery faults.
- Experience with battery testing, battery health assessment, or battery management systems.
- Experience with Tesla, BYD, Toyota Hybrid, Hyundai, Kia, MG, or other major hybrid/EV brands.
- Experience with manufacturer-specific diagnostic software.
- Experience with CAN bus systems and advanced vehicle electronics.
- High-voltage electrical safety certification or EV-specific technical training.
- Experience with EV charging systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electric motors, inverters, DC-DC converters, and other high-voltage components.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a mid-level automotive technician with strong specialist knowledge in hybrid and electric vehicles, particularly in diagnostics and battery systems.
They should be confident using diagnostic equipment to investigate complex vehicle faults and have practical experience testing and troubleshooting battery and high-voltage systems.
The client is looking for someone who can think diagnostically rather than simply replace parts — someone who can identify the underlying cause of a problem, determine the appropriate repair, and verify that the vehicle is operating correctly after the work is completed.
The successful candidate should also be safety-conscious, detail-oriented, technically curious, and willing to continuously develop their expertise as hybrid and EV technology evolves.

- Diagnostic equipment is used effectively to determine root causes rather than relying on trial-and-error repairs.

- Battery systems and high-voltage components are handled in accordance with appropriate safety procedures.
- Repairs are properly tested and verified before vehicles are returned to customers.
- Technical findings and repair recommendations are clearly communicated.
- Service and diagnostic records are accurate and up to date.
- The technician continues to develop their knowledge of emerging hybrid and EV technologies.
