Job Overview:
Our client is seeking a skilled Thermal Performance Assessor with hands-on experience using FirstRate5 to prepare accurate and compliant energy efficiency reports for residential building projects. This is a specialised role requiring practical FirstRate5 experience, with the successful candidate expected to independently assess building designs, interpret plans and specifications, model thermal performance, and prepare energy efficiency documentation in line with Australian building and energy efficiency requirements.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Melbourne Time (AEDT); Full-time role
Responsibilities:
FirstRate5 & Energy Efficiency Assessments:
- Prepare and complete energy efficiency assessments and reports using FirstRate5.
- Review architectural drawings, plans, specifications, materials, glazing, insulation, building orientation, and other relevant inputs.
- Accurately model residential buildings within FirstRate5 to assess thermal performance.
- Identify areas where building designs may require adjustments to meet required energy efficiency standards.
- Prepare clear and accurate assessment documentation for clients, builders, designers, and other stakeholders.
- Review assessment inputs and outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to clarify plans, specifications, and design requirements where required.
Australian Building & Energy Compliance:
- Apply knowledge of Australian building and energy efficiency requirements when completing assessments.
- Interpret architectural and construction documentation to determine relevant assessment requirements.
- Stay up to date with changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) and applicable energy efficiency requirements.
- Apply a strong understanding of the NCC Whole of Home requirements to relevant projects.
- Provide practical recommendations where design changes may be required to achieve compliance.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience using FirstRate5 for thermal performance and energy efficiency assessments.
- Previous experience in preparing Australian residential energy efficiency reports.
- Strong understanding of residential building design, construction methods, insulation, glazing, ventilation, orientation, and thermal performance principles.
- Ability to confidently interpret architectural plans, drawings, specifications, and building documentation.
- Strong understanding of Australian building and energy efficiency compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of the NCC energy efficiency provisions.
- Clear understanding of the newer NCC Whole of Home requirements or the ability to quickly apply this framework.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering assessment data and reviewing results.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assessments and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SDA energy assessments.
- Experience with BESS assessments.
- Experience with Bluefactor / Stormwater Assessments.
- Experience with NSW BASIX.
- Experience with DTS methodology.
- Experience with JV3 modelling and assessments.
- Experience with VURB assessments.
- Broader residential energy efficiency and sustainability consulting experience.
- Experience working with Australian builders, architects, building designers, or energy assessors.
