Structural CAD Technician

Job Overview:

Our client is looking for a detail-oriented Structural CAD Technician with at least 2 years’ experience in AutoCAD drafting to support structural and civil engineering projects.

Strong structural engineering and steelwork experience is highly preferred for this role, particularly candidates who have worked on structural steel, bridge structures, steelwork repair, refurbishment, or similar infrastructure projects. The role focuses on producing accurate, high-quality 2D drawings, including bridge repair and infrastructure-related deliverables.

Candidates with experience working to UK engineering standards and Network Rail design deliverables—particularly bridge steelwork repair drawings—will be highly preferred.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (UK Time), with a 30-minute paid break (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Recreate existing 2D drawings accurately in AutoCAD based on provided reference materials
  • Incorporate engineer markups, redlines, and hand-drawn sketches into updated CAD drawings
  • Produce structural and civil engineering drawings, with a strong focus on structural and steelwork-related deliverables
  • Prepare drainage layouts, site plans, and general civil works drawings (e.g., car parks)
  • Develop and update structural steelwork and bridge steelwork repair drawings
  • Produce drawings for bridge repair, refurbishment, and structural steelwork projects
  • Maintain drawing standards, layering conventions, and revision control across all project files
  • Perform cleanup, revisions, and minor design adjustments as directed by engineers
  • Ensure all outputs align with project specifications and UK drafting standards

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in 2D AutoCAD drafting
  • Strong experience producing structural engineering and steelwork drawings
  • Hands-on experience with structural steel, steelwork detailing, bridge structures, or steelwork repair is highly preferred
  • Experience working on bridge repair, refurbishment, or infrastructure projects is a strong advantage
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for structural and civil engineering drawings
  • Experience interpreting hand-drawn sketches, engineer markups, and redline annotations
  • Familiarity with UK engineering standards; Network Rail experience is highly desirable
  • Experience with bridge steelwork repair drawings is particularly desirable
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy in technical outputs
  • Strong written communication skills for remote collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
