Job Overview

Our client is seeking a technically strong, experienced WordPress & WooCommerce Developer to become their ongoing technical resource and take ownership of the technical side of an established e-commerce website. This is not a routine website maintenance or content-upload role. The ideal candidate will understand how a website works technically, diagnose underlying problems, implement robust solutions, and proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, security, functionality, reliability, and user experience.

Client Overview

The client operates an established e-commerce business with a range of WordPress/WooCommerce functionality, plugins, and third-party integrations. They are looking for a developer who will take genuine ownership of their technical infrastructure, investigate root causes, and provide long-term support as the business grows.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, flexible between 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM AEST (20 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and modify functionality within WordPress and WooCommerce to enhance website components, usability, and conversions
• Troubleshoot bugs, errors, unexpected behavior, and plugin conflicts to identify root causes and implement permanent fixes
• Conduct technical website maintenance including core updates, plugin management, security reviews, backups, and compatibility checks
• Diagnose and resolve technical problems involving payment gateways, checkout functionality, hosting, DNS, SSL, caching, and Cloudflare configurations
• Optimize website performance, speed, Core Web Vitals, image loading, database queries, and script execution
• Support e-commerce operations, product feeds, catalogue synchronization (Meta, Google Merchant Centre), and third-party API/webhook integrations
• Manage technical SEO requirements including site architecture, redirects, indexing issues, XML sitemaps, structured data, and Google Search Console monitoring
• Perform initial technical audits, assess historical issues, prioritize fixes, and advise on UX/branding technical implementations

Requirements

• Strong WordPress and WooCommerce development experience with a focus on established e-commerce platforms
• Proven experience with website performance, speed, and Core Web Vitals optimization
• Excellent technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose root causes rather than applying temporary fixes
• Solid background in managing hosting environments, server configurations, DNS, SSL, and Cloudflare/CDN platforms
• Good understanding of technical SEO, site architecture, structured data, and security best practices
• Familiarity with APIs, webhooks, and third-party platform integrations

Qualifications

• Experience with Meta/Facebook catalogues, Google Merchant Centre, Google Shopping, Google Analytics, and Klaviyo
• Experience with product feed systems, reviews, loyalty/rewards plugins, and advanced WooCommerce customizations
