Senior Client Accountant – Real Estate & Construction

We are looking for an experienced Senior Client Accountant to join a growing accounting services firm supporting a portfolio of U.S.-based real estate and construction clients.

This is a highly client-facing accounting role for someone who can do more than prepare financial statements and reconcile accounts. You will take ownership of the accounting function for multiple clients, understand their businesses, communicate financial results clearly, and provide meaningful insights that help clients make better business decisions.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with U.S. accounting experience, QuickBooks Online expertise, financial analysis, and excellent client communication skills.

You will work closely with clients and the firm's founder to establish reliable accounting processes, improve reporting, develop SOPs, and help build scalable accounting services as the company grows.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who wants to move beyond transactional accounting and become a trusted financial partner to clients.

Key Responsibilities

Client Accounting & Financial Management

  • Own the full-cycle accounting function for a portfolio of approximately 2–5 U.S. clients
  • Manage bookkeeping, month-end close, reconciliations, AP, AR, and general ledger activities
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Analyze financial results and identify trends, variances, and potential issues
  • Ensure client accounts are accurate, timely, and properly maintained
  • Maintain accounting records in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based platforms

Real Estate & Construction Accounting

  • Support accounting for real estate and construction clients
  • Perform job costing and project-level financial analysis
  • Track project costs, budgets, profitability, and variances
  • Manage construction-related accounts payable and receivable
  • Process and track lien waivers and related documentation
  • Understand the financial implications of projects, properties, vendors, and contractors
  • Identify unusual transactions, discrepancies, or financial trends that require client attention

Client-Facing & Advisory Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for assigned clients
  • Communicate directly with business owners, executives, and client stakeholders
  • Participate in regular client meetings to review financial performance
  • Explain financial statements and accounting results in a clear, business-friendly manner
  • Proactively identify issues and opportunities rather than simply reporting numbers
  • Answer client accounting questions and provide practical recommendations
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients
  • Present financial information confidently to non-accounting stakeholders

Process & Firm Development

  • Develop and document accounting workflows and SOPs
  • Improve accounting processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and accuracy
  • Help establish standardized processes as the firm grows
  • Support onboarding and implementation of new clients
  • Assess each client's accounting environment and establish appropriate workflows
  • Work directly with the founder to improve service delivery and develop new accounting solutions
  • Identify opportunities to improve client service and expand the firm's capabilities

Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience
  • Strong experience with U.S. accounting
  • Experience managing accounting for multiple clients, companies, or entities
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting
  • Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements
  • Strong reconciliation and month-end close experience
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients or business owners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of client accounts
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Highly Preferred

  • Experience with real estate accounting
  • Experience with construction accounting
  • Experience with job costing and project accounting
  • Experience processing or managing lien waivers
  • Experience working with property management or construction companies
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification
  • Experience with cloud accounting platforms and integrations
  • Experience developing accounting SOPs and processes
  • Experience working in an accounting firm, CAS, or outsourced accounting environment
