Bookkeeper (QuickBooks Online)

Job Overview:

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper (QuickBooks Online) to support the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping needs of multiple small business clients. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining accurate financial records, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, reporting, and keeping client books organized and up to date. A CPA is preferred for this role; however, candidates who are not CPAs will also be considered, with strong consideration given to their relevant bookkeeping, accounting, and U.S. client experience.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (US Eastern Time), with a 1-hour unpaid break; Full-time, 35 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple small business clients.
  • Record, categorize, and reconcile daily financial transactions, including income, expenses, payments, and transfers.
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including tracking invoices, payments, and outstanding balances.
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Review financial transactions and account records for errors, inconsistencies, missing information, or unusual activity.
  • Maintain clean and organized books to support monthly reporting and tax preparation.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities and ensure supporting documentation is complete.
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation for client accounts.
  • Assist with preparing tax-ready financial information and supporting documentation.
  • Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and other financial reporting needs as required.
  • Communicate discrepancies, missing information, and financial concerns to the appropriate team member or client.
  • Manage multiple client accounts while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and timely completion of tasks.
  • Work closely with the accounting team to support client requests, financial reviews, and ongoing bookkeeping needs.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, Accounting Specialist, or similar accounting role.
  • Hands-on experience with bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction categorization, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; experience with other accounting platforms is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and client information professionally.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the accounting team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certification or an accounting-related professional certification.
  • Experience working with U.S.-based businesses or accounting firms.
  • Experience managing books for multiple small business clients.
  • Experience with multi-entity or multi-state bookkeeping.
  • Experience supporting the month-end close and tax preparation.
  • Experience with Xero, Wave, Bill.com, or similar accounting platforms.
  • Experience in preparing financial reports and cash flow information for business owners.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a remote or outsourced accounting environment.
