Client Onboarding Accountant

Overview
This company is seeking an experienced Client Onboarding Accountant to guide new clients through accounting implementation and prepare them for a successful transition to our Operations Team. This role owns the client relationship during implementation, conducts onboarding meetings, reviews accounting records, coordinates work with our offshore team, performs quality reviews, and documents the client's recurring accounting procedures.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm Eastern Time - with an hour unpaid break (8 hours per day, 40 hours per week) 

Key Responsibilities

  •  Conduct client kickoff and onboarding meetings, and meet with the PIC or originator to confirm the client's needs, goals, and engagement scope.
  • Review accounting records, systems, processes, and access requirements; identify cleanup needs, missing information, accounting risks, and implementation priorities.
  • Develop a client-specific implementation plan with clear priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Validate opening balances, reconciliations, and prior-period accounting information.
  • Prepare clear instructions and coordinate work assigned to the offshore accounting team
  • Review completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with the engagement scope.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and resolve outstanding onboarding issues.
  • Monitor engagement scope, timeline, and budget, escalating risks promptly.
  • Document client procedures, preferences, reporting requirements, and recurring responsibilities.
  • Establish recurring accounting procedures, close schedules, and reporting expectations before handoff.
  • Complete the transition and knowledge transfer to the Operations Team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional experience applying US accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and accounting cleanup.
  • Strong client communication, technical review, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coordinating or reviewing work performed by offshore or remote accounting teams.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and cloud-based accounting systems.
  • CPA license or CPA candidacy preferred.
  • Accounting firm or client-onboarding experience is a plus.
