Job Title: Custom Product Graphic Designer (Part-Time)
Role Overview
A growing e-commerce and consumer goods brand specializing in buildable 3D products, promotional merchandise, and custom-branded goods is looking for a dependable Custom Product Graphic Designer for a long-term, part-time contractor engagement.
In this role, you will turn customer-provided logos, brand guidelines, and creative briefs into high-quality graphic concepts applied to established product dielines. Rather than simply placing logos onto templates, you will build complete, cohesive visual concepts using supporting backgrounds, patterns, textures, layouts, and custom artwork.
All physical product structures and dielines are pre-developed; this role does not involve structural packaging design, product engineering, or creating new cutting dies. You will work internally under the direction of the Brand Director and Sales team to support custom orders with zero direct client communication.
Schedule & Setup
- Type: Long-term, Part-Time Remote Contractor
- Hours: 20 hours per week
- Working Hours: Primary availability during Eastern Time (EST) business hours Monday - Friday, between 8:00 AM-5:00 PM EST
- Communication & Responsiveness: Communication is primarily managed via Slack (same-business-day response expected during working days). File sharing via Google Drive and WeTransfer.
Core Responsibilities
- Asset & Brief Review: Analyze customer logos, brand guidelines, color palettes, artwork, reference materials, and creative briefs.
- Graphic Application: Apply artwork accurately onto existing Adobe Illustrator dielines and templates.
- Concept Development: Build custom visual elements—including supporting vector backgrounds, patterns, textures, layouts, and occasional original illustrations—to reflect the customer’s brand.
- 3D Visual Consideration: Consider how flat vector artwork renders, aligns, and appears across multiple pieces and surfaces once the physical product is assembled.
- Proofing & Revisions: Prepare clear, customer-facing digital proofs and efficiently incorporate internal and customer feedback.
- Production Handoff: Prepare accurate, organized, and finalized artwork for internal production review.
- Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously at various stages, meet agreed deadlines, and promptly communicate questions or asset concerns.
Requirements & Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Portfolio: A strong graphic design portfolio showcasing vector artwork, merchandise, signage, apparel, or product mockups.
- Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and strong vector creation/editing skills.
- Design Judgment: Excellent typography, composition, color theory, and layout judgment.
- Resourcefulness: Proven ability to turn a limited collection of customer assets into a complete, visually engaging design.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail when working within strict dimensions, templates, dielines, and production constraints.
- Communication: Fluent written English and clear professional communication skills.
- EST Availability: Reliable availability and responsiveness during Eastern Time working hours.
Preferred / Advantageous:
- Experience in packaging design, dielines, masking, or template-based graphic work.
- Experience designing for physical products, promotional merchandise, or signage.
- Understanding of basic commercial printing or print-production requirements.
- Experience creating customer-facing product proofs or mockups.
- Ability to work comfortably across multiple visual styles and brand guidelines.
Ideal Working Style:
- Creative, practical, organized, and dependable.
- Comfortable working within established constraints without needing every detail mapped out.
- Receptive to feedback and comfortable making revisions.
- Able to work independently with limited oversight as brand familiarity grows.
Design Assessment: Finalists may be asked to complete a design exercise representative of the role prior to hiring.
