Full-Charge Bookkeeper - Xero, NZ Payroll

Job Overview

Our client is looking for a Full-Charge Bookkeeper to take ownership of the financial operations for a growing training organization, managing the full cycle of accounts receivable and payable while ensuring accurate reconciliation in Xero. This role offers the unique opportunity to work directly with the outgoing bookkeeper during a structured handover period, allowing you to master the company's bespoke processes before taking full ownership. You'll collaborate closely with the sales team and existing offshore staff to ensure invoicing accuracy, manage payroll processing, and handle compliance filings that keep the business running smoothly.

Client Overview

Our client is an established training company based in New Zealand, specializing in workplace health and safety certification programs. They deliver comprehensive courses including multi-week certificate programs and work with a distributed team across multiple countries.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM NZST (20 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts receivable with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring invoices are billed to the correct individuals and entities
  • Process accounts payable and perform regular bank reconciliations in Xero
  • Handle payroll processing using Smartly payroll software
  • File GST returns through Xero integration, eliminating manual IRD portal access
  • Add and manage learner records in Student Fee Protect portal for the New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety program
  • Collaborate with the sales team to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing
  • Work alongside existing offshore team members to maintain seamless financial operations
  • Provide general administrative support as the business needs evolve

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with Australian or New Zealand companies
  • Xero certification and hands-on experience using Xero for daily bookkeeping tasks
  • Strong accounts receivable experience with proven attention to detail
  • Experience with bank reconciliation and accounts payable processes
  • Familiarity with GST filing and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with sales teams and colleagues
  • Administrative skills to handle varied tasks beyond core bookkeeping duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bonus if you have experience with Smartly payroll software
  • It helps if you've worked with training organizations or education sector clients
