Senior Solar & Electrical Estimator (AU Market)

Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Solar & Electrical Estimator (AU Market) to support the preparation of accurate quotations, project costing, and estimating activities for residential and commercial solar and electrical projects. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within the Australian solar and/or electrical contracting industry, with a solid understanding of estimating practices, electrical materials, labour costing, and project workflows. Experience using Simpro, Xero, and advanced Microsoft Excel is essential. Working closely with the operations and project teams, you will prepare quotations, maintain pricing schedules, coordinate supplier pricing, and support the successful delivery of projects through accurate estimating and project administration.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST | Flexible within client's business hours (20 hours per week, 4 Hours per day)

Responsibilities:

Estimating & Costing

  • Prepare accurate quotations for residential and commercial solar and electrical projects
  • Review project plans, specifications, and customer requirements to determine project scope
  • Estimate labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Prepare quotations for solar systems, batteries, EV chargers, switchboards, lighting, electrical installations, and associated products
  • Source and compare supplier pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates
  • Update pricing schedules and costing databases as supplier pricing changes
  • Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines

Project Administration

  • Create and manage jobs within Simpro
  • Maintain project documentation, variations, and job records
  • Assist with procurement activities and purchase orders
  • Coordinate with suppliers regarding pricing, stock availability, and delivery schedules
  • Support project managers with estimating updates and project administration

Financial & System Support

  • Assist with purchase order processing and supplier invoice reconciliation
  • Support project costing and job profitability tracking
  • Assist with invoicing and financial administration using Xero
  • Maintain accurate project data across Simpro, Xero, and internal systems

Reporting & Data Analysis

  • Develop and maintain estimating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel
  • Produce reports on quotations, project costs, margins, and supplier pricing
  • Analyse project cost variances and identify discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate pricing and product databases

Continuous Improvement:

  • Assist in improving estimating templates and workflows
  • Support documentation of estimating procedures and best practices
  • Contribute to operational efficiency and process improvements

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as an Estimator within the solar, electrical, or construction industry
  • Experience preparing quotations for residential and/or commercial electrical or solar projects
  • Hands-on experience in Xero and Simpro
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, IF formulas, reporting)
  • Strong understanding of electrical materials, labour costing, and project estimating principles
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal English communication
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Nice-to-Have Requirements:

  • Experience supporting Australian electrical contractors or solar installers
  • Knowledge of Australian electrical standards and solar industry terminology
  • Experience using OpenSolar, SolarEdge Designer, or similar solar design software
  • Familiarity with batteries, EV chargers, energy storage systems, and commercial electrical projects
  • Experience with procurement and supplier management
  • Understanding of project scheduling and workflow coordination
