Accounting Manager

Schedule: Mon - Fri. 8am - 5pm CST

Candidates must live in any US time Zone hours, preferably EST or CST.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review financial reports against schedules, reconciliations, and workpapers to identify discrepancies, validate balances, and recommend corrections
  • Analyze financial statements and supporting reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS-aligned principles where applicable, nonprofit fund accounting requirements, grantor guidelines, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Review account classifications, transaction coding, grant/customer allocations, and report tie-outs to ensure consistency between accounting records and management reports
  • Support month-end close by reviewing balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, identifying unusual variances, validating journal entries, and ensuring supporting documentation is complete
  • Prepare budget analysis, compare actual results against projections, and explain significant variances
  • Lead and support ad-hoc finance and accounting projects, including budgeting support, financial analysis, special reporting requests, grant or client-specific reviews, cleanup projects, process improvements, and other project-based tasks assigned from time to time
  • Prepare and oversee workpapers, reconciliations, schedules, and review-ready reporting packages for leadership, auditors, grantors, partners, and board presentations
  • Review revenue recognition, grant spending, expense classifications, capitalized costs, depreciation entries, prepaid expenses, accruals, and reclassifications as needed
  • Coordinate with auditors, tax agents, grantors, and regulatory bodies to ensure timely compliance and documentation support
  • Develop and maintain financial databases, accounting systems, trackers, and documentation processes to improve reporting accuracy, visibility, and efficiency
  • Design automated dashboards, trackers, templates, and monitoring tools for budget performance, invoicing, revenue recognition, grant spending, close progress, and financial review status.
  • Support accounting team members by reviewing work, providing guidance on accounting treatment, and helping ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Fluent and clear english level
  • Strong background in accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting support, and variance analysis
  • Experience reviewing financial statements, general ledger activity, schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit accounting, grant reporting, and internal control principles.
  • Ability to identify accounting issues, recommend corrections, and clearly communicate financial findings
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills, including use of trackers, dashboards, reconciliations, and reporting templates
  • Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online, Sage, Netsuite, or similar platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and reporting priorities
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with CFOs, client leadership, auditors, grantors, and accounting support staff
  • Ability to support ad-hoc financial analysis, special projects, process improvements, and project-based accounting assignments
  • This role requires a resourceful and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to independently investigate accounting and reporting issues, recommend practical solutions, and support CFOs with a proactive, can-do approach
