Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to support the day-to-day financial operations of a growing business. This role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeping professional with strong Xero expertise who enjoys maintaining accurate financial records, managing invoicing, and providing timely financial reporting. You will work closely with the business owner to improve bookkeeping processes while ensuring accounts remain accurate and up to date.
This is a long-term remote opportunity with the potential to expand into broader accounting responsibilities, including payroll support, payment processing, tax coordination, and financial statement preparation.
Schedule:
- Mondays to Fridays, 3:00 to 7:00 pm (Australian Eastern Time, 20 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and file daily work dockets into Excel spreadsheets, accurately recording truck earnings by job site.
- Generate, issue, and manage customer invoices through Xero.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and assist with accounts receivable follow-up.
- Manage the business email inbox, ensuring subcontractor invoices and financial correspondence are processed promptly.
- Maintain organized records of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Prepare weekly and monthly Profit & Loss summaries.
- Track operational expenses, including diesel costs and other business expenditures.
- Maintain schedules for recurring bills and supplier payments.
- Notify the business owner of upcoming payment deadlines and outstanding obligations.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure supporting documentation is properly filed.
- Recommend improvements to bookkeeping workflows and financial reporting processes.
- Support additional accounting functions as the business grows.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a Bookkeeper or similar accounting support role.
- Hands-on experience using Xero for invoicing, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheets, formulas, and financial tracking.
- Solid understanding of:
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Bank reconciliations
- General bookkeeping principles
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a remote work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting businesses within transport, logistics, construction, or trade industries.
- Experience in preparing management reports and financial summaries.
- Exposure to payroll processing and tax lodgement coordination.
- Familiarity with Australian bookkeeping practices is advantageous.
