Billing Specialist | Personal Injury

Job Overview:

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Billing Specialist to manage the financial closing process for personal injury cases from settlement through file closure. This role is responsible for preparing settlement statements, reconciling client funds, verifying medical bills and liens, coordinating lien reductions, processing payments, and maintaining accurate records in MyCase.

Schedule: Remote, Full Time | 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Case Closing: Manage the financial closing and reconciliation process for personal injury cases from settlement through file closure.
  • Financial Documentation: Prepare accurate settlement statements and ensure all case expenses, costs, and deductions are properly documented.
  • Fund Reconciliation: Reconcile client trust funds, disbursements, and final balances with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Lien & Bill Verification: Verify medical bills, provider balances, health insurance liens, and subrogation claims.
  • Lien Reduction: Coordinate and negotiate lien reduction efforts with medical providers and insurance carriers.
  • Payment Processing: Issue timely and accurate disbursements to clients, medical providers, lienholders, and third parties.
  • Data Management: Maintain precise financial data and case records within MyCase and internal systems.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal teams and interact professionally with clients, providers, and insurers regarding financial status and balances.

Requirements: 

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in legal billing, accounting, or personal injury case reconciliation.
  • Preferred Experience: Knowledge of personal injury workflows, file closing procedures, trust accounting, medical billing, health insurance liens, and subrogation claims.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with legal case management software (MyCase preferred), MS Office, Google Workspace, and electronic payment systems.
  • Financial & Analytical Skills: Exceptional mathematical and problem-solving skills to precisely review, validate, and reconcile financial records.
  • Organization & Time Management: Ability to independently manage multiple case files, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interaction with clients, attorneys, medical providers, and insurers.
  • Detail & Accountability: High level of organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a strict commitment to accuracy and financial accountability.
  • Professionalism & Discretion: Utmost discretion, ethics, and confidentiality when handling sensitive client data, with a calm demeanor under pressure.
