IT Systems Administrator / Technology Manager (Remote)

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and highly organized IT Systems Administrator / Technology Manager to serve as the primary technology resource for a growing group of businesses. This is not a traditional help desk role. We are looking for someone who will take ownership of the technology environment, recommend and implement improvements, manage software platforms, strengthen security, and support long-term scalability.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical challenges, optimizing systems, researching new technologies, and creating efficient processes that make day-to-day operations easier for the team. This role will work closely with leadership and operations teams while acting as the primary point of contact for technology administration, support, and planning.


Responsibilities

User Administration

  • Create, manage, and deactivate employee accounts across business systems
  • Set up new employees with appropriate software, hardware, and access permissions
  • Manage user permissions, password resets, and account security
  • Maintain accurate user access documentation
  • Develop and improve onboarding and offboarding procedures

Google Workspace Administration

  • Configure and administer Google Workspace environments
  • Manage Gmail, Google Drive, Shared Drives, Calendars, Meet, Chat, Groups, and security settings
  • Create and maintain email signatures, aliases, shared inboxes, and distribution groups
  • Support email migrations and platform rollouts
  • Train team members on Google Workspace best practices

Software & Systems Administration

Serve as the primary administrator for business software platforms, including:

  • Google Workspace
  • QuickBooks Online
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Cloud storage and document management platforms
  • Workforce management systems
  • Estimating and project management software
  • Manufacturing and operations software
  • Payroll systems
  • Password management solutions
  • Remote support tools
  • Other business applications adopted in the future

Responsibilities include:

  • Software implementation and configuration
  • User licensing and permissions
  • Vendor coordination
  • Troubleshooting and support
  • Best practice implementation
  • Ongoing system administration

Technical Support

  • Provide first-level technical support for employees
  • Troubleshoot Windows laptops, iPhones, iPads, printers, email, internet connectivity, and software issues
  • Resolve day-to-day technical problems remotely
  • Escalate complex issues when necessary
  • Create documentation and guides for recurring issues
  • Deliver user training and technology support

Technology Planning & Process Improvement

  • Evaluate and recommend software solutions
  • Research emerging technologies and business tools
  • Lead implementation of approved systems
  • Identify automation opportunities and process improvements
  • Standardize technology platforms where practical
  • Recommend hardware upgrades and technology investments
  • Develop technology standards and best practices

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and administer Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies
  • Monitor user access and account security
  • Maintain security protocols and software licensing compliance
  • Support backup and disaster recovery planning
  • Recommend cybersecurity improvements and best practices
  • Ensure immediate removal of system access for terminated employees

Documentation & Vendor Management

  • Maintain system, software, hardware, and process documentation
  • Track software subscriptions and licensing
  • Manage vendor relationships and renewals
  • Compare pricing and recommend cost-effective solutions
  • Coordinate software implementations and migrations

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an IT Systems Administrator, Technology Manager, Google Workspace Administrator, or similar role
  • Strong Google Workspace administration experience
  • Experience implementing and managing MFA and user security policies
  • Understanding of IAM best practices
  • Experience administering cloud-based business software
  • Experience managing user accounts, permissions, and onboarding/offboarding processes
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills
  • Excellent documentation and organizational abilities
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technology initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Adobe Acrobat, and cloud storage platforms
  • Familiarity with workforce management, project management, estimating, or manufacturing software
  • Experience with endpoint security tools and remote support platforms
  • Experience evaluating and implementing new software solutions
  • Knowledge of VoIP or business phone systems
