Social Media Assistant (Sci-Fi Fantasy Author Personal Assistant

Overview

We are seeking a creative and highly organized Social Media Assistant to support a published fantasy and science fiction author in growing their online presence and reader community. In this role, you will help manage content, engage with BookTok/Bookstagram communities, and design eye-catching visual assets using tools like Canva and CapCut. If you are a book enthusiast passionate about building authentic connections with sci-fi and fantasy audiences in a flexible, remote environment, we want you on our team!

Schedule: Part-time remote position offering flexible working hours (with a required overlap during onboarding and ramp-up periods).

Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across Instagram and YouTube.
  • Develop daily discussion prompts, reader engagement posts, and book-related content.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and community interactions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice that aligns with the author's audience and personal brand.

Community Engagement

  • Build relationships within BookTok, Bookstagram, and BookTube communities.
  • Identify and engage with relevant readers, influencers, reviewers, and content creators.
  • Foster meaningful conversations and increase audience engagement across platforms.

Content Creation

  • Design graphics, reels, shorts, and other visual assets using tools such as Canva and CapCut.
  • Assist with content planning and campaign execution.
  • Support the creation of promotional content for book launches, announcements, and reader engagement initiatives.

Marketing & Research Support

  • Conduct research on industry trends, fantasy and sci-fi communities, and audience preferences.
  • Identify partnership, collaboration, and influencer opportunities.
  • Support outreach efforts to bloggers, reviewers, content creators, and community partners.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain records and reports using Google Sheets.
  • Complete bookstore submission forms and book distribution applications.
  • Assist with various administrative and operational tasks related to marketing initiatives.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience in Social Media Specialist tasks for at least 3 yrs (APPLICATIONS WITH PORTFOLIOS WILL BE PRIORITIZED)
  • Strong passion for fantasy and science fiction literature.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, particularly Instagram.
  • Familiarity with BookTok, Bookstagram, and BookTube communities.
  • Understanding of audience engagement strategies and social media best practices.
  • Excellent written English communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Google Sheets.
  • Marketing background or experience in digital marketing, social media marketing, or content marketing.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively in a remote environment.

Technical Requirements

  • Reliable computer or laptop.
  • Minimum 16GB RAM.
  • Stable internet connection with at least 100 Mbps speed.
  • Dedicated second monitor for productivity.
  • Quiet and professional remote work environment.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience using Canva, CapCut, or similar content creation tools.
  • Experience working with authors, publishers, literary brands, or book-related communities.
  • Understanding of genre-specific marketing, particularly within fantasy and science fiction.
  • Experience coordinating influencer partnerships and community collaborations.
