Accountant (AP & Month-End Close)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Accountant with at least 5 years of accounting experience to support day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate has strong experience in Accounts Payable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting, along with proficiency in modern accounting technology platforms.
This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely vendor payments, and partnering with leadership to improve accounting workflows through automation and technology.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Expense Management
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice review, coding, approval workflows, and payment processing.
- Process and reconcile vendor invoices through Bill.com.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and support vendor onboarding activities.
- Review employee expense reports and reimbursements through Brex and other expense management platforms.
- Resolve vendor inquiries and discrepancies in a timely manner.
General Accounting
- Record and maintain accurate journal entries and general ledger transactions.
- Code bank and credit card transactions in QuickBooks Online.
- Perform account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, prepaid, accrual, and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations from Rippling.
- Support fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules as needed.
Month-End Close
- Prepare and complete month-end close activities according to established deadlines.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
- Assist in producing monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Support year-end close and external audit requests.
Process Improvement & Technology
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
- Utilize accounting and finance technology platforms to automate repetitive tasks.
- Leverage AI tools such as Claude to assist with research, documentation, reconciliations, variance analysis, and process improvement while maintaining appropriate accounting oversight and professional judgment.
- Maintain accounting procedures and process documentation.
Collaboration
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial information.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding accounting matters.
- Collaborate through Slack and other communication tools to support a remote work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with month-end close processes.
- Hands-on experience managing Accounts Payable.
- Experience performing bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com for AP processing.
- Experience with Rippling payroll platform, with Brex expense management and corporate cards.
- Familiarity with Slack for team collaboration.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms within accounting workflows.
- Experience supporting multi-entity organizations is a plus.
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
