Medical Billing Collector

Job Overview

Our client is looking for a Medical Billing Collector who will be responsible for ensuring the timely collection of outstanding unpaid claims, addressing insurance denials, and resolving outstanding balances from various insurance companies. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing processes, insurance guidelines, and exceptional communication skills to effectively resolve payment issues.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PT, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Verifying patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and billing information.
  • Reviewing claims for accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines.
  • Researching and resolving billing discrepancies.
  • Maintaining knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding standards.
  • Communicating with insurance carriers regarding claim status and reimbursement.
  • Follow up on unpaid or underpaid insurance claims.
  • Investigate claim denials and identify root causes.
  • Appeal denied claims and submit supporting documentation.
  • Contact insurance carriers regarding payment status and claim resolution.
  • Monitor aging reports and prioritize accounts for follow-up.
  • Communicate with patients regarding outstanding balances and payment arrangements.
  • Document collection activities in the billing system.
  • Meet productivity and collection goals established by management.
  • Assist with special projects related to accounts receivable reduction.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and collections.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software (eClinicalWorks preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Experience using payer websites to assess claim status for collections follow-up.
  • Working knowledge of eligibility and authorization processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including data entry, formatting, and basic formulas.
  • MUST HAVE WINDOWS OS DEVICE
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (CPC) is a plus.
