Medical Billing and Collections Specialist (eClinicalWorks)

Job Overview

Our client is looking for a Medical Billing and Collections Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring the timely collection of outstanding unpaid claims, addressing insurance denials, and resolving outstanding balances from various insurance companies. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing processes, insurance guidelines, and exceptional communication skills to effectively resolve payment issues.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and billing information to ensure accurate claim submission.
  • Review claims for accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines while researching and resolving billing discrepancies.
  • Maintain knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding standards to support billing processes.
  • Follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims, monitor aging reports, and prioritize accounts for timely resolution.
  • Investigate claim denials, identify root causes, and submit appeals with supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers and patients regarding claim status, reimbursements, outstanding balances, and payment arrangements.
  • Document collection activities, meet productivity goals, and assist with accounts receivable reduction projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and collections; CPC certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software, preferably eClinicalWorks, and Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and basic reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, with a working understanding of eligibility and authorization processes.
  • Reliable internet and VPN access, with a Windows OS device required.
  • Experience using payer websites to review claim status and support collections follow-up.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet collection deadlines, and achieve monthly productivity goals.
