Bookkeeper (Australia)

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to provide accurate and reliable financial administration support for two business entities operating within the Australian market. This role requires strong expertise in MYOB, Australian bookkeeping practices, payroll administration, GST compliance, and BAS preparation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, supporting reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with Australian taxation regulations.

Schedule:

  • 20 hours per week during Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) business hours.

Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Process incoming and outgoing invoices accurately and efficiently.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions.
  • Maintain accurate customer and supplier records.
  • Ensure timely processing and allocation of payments.

Bank Reconciliations

  • Perform regular bank reconciliations within MYOB.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow records and transaction histories.

Payroll Administration

  • Coordinate and process payroll for employees and contractors.
  • Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure payroll activities comply with Australian employment and taxation requirements.

BAS & Tax Compliance Support

  • Prepare supporting documentation and financial figures for BAS submissions.
  • Ensure accurate GST coding and reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with Australian tax regulations and bookkeeping standards.

Financial Record Management

  • Maintain complete and accurate financial records across multiple business entities.
  • Organize financial documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Support the maintenance of records relevant to RTO and construction industry operations.

Reporting & Business Support

  • Assist with financial reporting and management information requirements.
  • Provide bookkeeping support for both business entities.
  • Prepare financial data and reports for management review.
  • Collaborate with leadership on financial administration and reporting requirements.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide regular updates and reports to management.
  • Participate in handovers and knowledge-transfer activities with the existing bookkeeper.
  • Communicate professionally regarding financial matters and bookkeeping processes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience supporting Australian SMEs.
  • Strong practical experience using MYOB for bookkeeping, invoicing, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian GST requirements and BAS preparation.
  • Experience managing bookkeeping functions for multiple business entities.
  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation practices.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
  • Exposure to bookkeeping within the construction or trades industry.
  • Experience working with Australian compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based financial systems and online banking portals.
  • Experience supporting business owners and executive leadership teams.
