Our client is seeking an analytical, detail-oriented Credit Analyst – Mortgage & Property Lending to support sound underwriting and risk decision-making across a diverse, property-backed lending portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting deep-dive financial analysis, serviceability calculations, and thorough property risk evaluations. You will play a pivotal role in the end-to-end lending lifecycle—interpreting borrower bank statements, auditing asset valuations, verifying corporate financials, and synthesizing complex data points into high-quality credit submissions for the Head of Credit. Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM AEST (Alexandria, VIC Time), with a 1-hour unpaid break (40 hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Credit Analysis & Underwriting: Review incoming loan applications, corporate financial statements, tax returns, bank records, and credit bureau reports to verify borrower character and capacity.
- Property & Market Research: Conduct rigorous property inspections via desktop research, audit independent valuer assessments, execute feasibility checks, and analyze local market data trends.
- Credit Paper Preparation: Write comprehensive credit submissions, financial modeling analyses, and structured risk summaries, providing definitive approval or decline recommendations to the Head of Credit.
- Deal Structuring: Assist in structuring complex residential or commercial lending deals to align precisely with the firm’s credit policy parameters and overarching risk appetite.
- Stakeholder Pipeline Management: Liaise professionally with mortgage brokers, borrowers, external valuers, and internal legal or operations teams to keep the application pipeline moving efficiently.
- Compliance & Portfolio Monitoring: Audit active loan files to ensure absolute compliance with internal lending mandates, track loan covenants, and monitor ongoing portfolio risk indicators.
- Process Optimization: Identify data trends or operational bottlenecks and contribute actionable ideas to enhance the efficiency of proprietary credit underwriting workflows.
Requirements
- Credit Experience: 2+ years of direct experience in credit analysis, credit support, mortgage lending operations, or commercial financial analysis.
- Lending Mechanics: A solid, practical understanding of property-backed lending, SME finance, commercial real estate, or complex residential mortgage structures.
- Financial Literacy: Advanced analytical skills with a proven ability to interpret balance sheets, profit & loss (P&L) statements, and calculate debt service coverage ratios.
- Technical Software Skills: High proficiency operating Microsoft Excel (data modeling and formulas) and familiarity working within corporate lending CRMs or loan origination software (LOS).
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, specifically tailored for compiling technical legal/financial credit briefs.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in private lending, non-bank lending (MFI/NBFC), mortgage broking, or commercial banking is highly regarded.
- Direct exposure to structuring specialized facilities such as bridging loans, construction/development finance, or asset-backed lending.
- Tertiary qualifications (Degree or Diploma) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related business field are considered a distinct advantage.
