Job Overview
Our client is seeking a creative and strategic Textile Designer to join their Sydney-based team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating client expectations into high-end textile concepts while maintaining the brand's vision and aesthetic across all touchpoints. This is a comprehensive design position that spans the entire project lifecycle—from identifying global marketplace trends and manufacturing techniques to executing original works and documenting technical specifications for production. You will act as a guardian of quality control, ensuring that every rug design meets rigorous technical standards and remains cost-effective without compromising on innovation.

Monday – Friday, 08:30 AM – 05:00 PM Sydney Time, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Collection Development: Work closely with the Design team to develop cohesive textile collections, balancing artistic creativity with production efficiency.
- Technical Documentation: Accurately document designs for manufacturing, ensuring all color references, scales, and technical drawings are precise.
- Trend & Innovation: Identify key textile trends and new manufacturing techniques; develop innovative rug constructions and materials to enhance product performance.
- Project Management: Liaise with the sales team to finalize project briefs and assist in developing high-impact presentations for clients.
- Quality Control: Review quality feedback, manage manufacturing challenges, and ensure all products adhere to brand guidelines and technical specifications.
- Sample Production: Efficiently produce rug samples and prototypes for testing, evaluation, and client approval.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with manufacturing and marketing teams to ensure designs meet technical requirements and market trends.
- Leadership & Admin: Manage contractors and casual labor; complete ad hoc administrative duties to ensure projects meet deadlines.
Requirements
- Creative Portfolio: A professional portfolio demonstrating high-end design capabilities.
- Education: Tertiary qualifications in Design (Textiles or related field preferred).
- Software Mastery: Excellent Adobe Illustrator skills and a strong understanding of design workflows.
- Technical Drafting: Ability to create and read scale drawings (specific training will be provided).
- Lifecycle Ownership: Proven ability to take a project from initial concept to final completion.
- Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused, results-driven approach.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive ability to anticipate manufacturing or design issues and provide effective solutions.
