Overview:
Join a U.S.-based tax advisory firm focused on delivering high-quality tax preparation and strategic tax planning services. The firm works with a diverse client base, including individuals, businesses, and real estate investors, and emphasizes proactive tax strategies rather than simple compliance. This role is ideal for someone who can think beyond data entry and contribute to tax-saving opportunities and advisory insights.
As a Tax Preparer, you will be responsible for preparing accurate U.S. tax returns while identifying opportunities for tax optimization. You will work with bookkeeping data and transform it into compliant and strategic filings, supporting both individual and business clients. This role requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to apply tax knowledge in a practical, advisory-driven environment.
Schedule: Part-time (20 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
Working Hours: Flexible during business hours (Hawaii Time Zone, US)
Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation
- Prepare U.S. tax returns for individuals (1040) and businesses (1065, 1120, 1120S)
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current tax regulations
- Review financial data and supporting documentation
Tax Planning & Advisory
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and planning strategies
- Apply an advisory mindset beyond basic compliance work
- Support strategic decision-making through tax insights
Data & Systems Management
- Work with bookkeeping data from Xero and QuickBooks Online
- Convert financial records into accurate tax filings
- Utilize Thomson Reuters tax software for return preparation
Collaboration & Communication
- Document workpapers and maintain organized records
- Communicate clearly with internal team members
- Support client-related queries when required
Requirements:
- Active US CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential (EA highly preferred)
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in U.S. tax preparation
- Strong proficiency in Thomson Reuters tax software
- Experience preparing individual and business tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S)
- Strong understanding of tax planning strategies
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently with high accuracy
- Experience with real estate tax strategies
- Familiarity with multi-state tax filings
- Knowledge of complex entity structures (partnerships, joint ventures, etc.)
