Job Overview
Our client is looking for a meticulous and experienced Bookkeeper to manage and reconstruct financial records for a commercial real estate holding corporation and its affiliates. This role begins with a significant backlog project—reconstructing records dating back to 2021—and will transition into ongoing monthly maintenance and administrative support. The ideal candidate is an expert in QuickBooks Online and has a deep understanding of Canadian tax requirements to ensure all records are audit-ready for the client’s accountant.

Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Eastern Time (20 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Reconstruct and reconcile historical bookkeeping records dating back to 2021 across multiple corporations
- Categorize and itemize monthly bank transactions in alignment with the accountant's reporting requirements
- Track and reconcile HST collected on rental income against HST paid on eligible expenses for quarterly or annual government filings
- Process and record receipts, invoices, and vendor payments from scanned or photographed documents
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records on an ongoing basis to support timely income tax filings
- Support general administrative tasks across multiple corporations as workload permits
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online for transaction entry, categorization, and reporting
- Solid understanding of Canadian tax obligations including HST/GST filing and reconciliation
- Degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver outcomes on schedule
Scope
- Begin with backlog bookkeeping for a commercial real estate holding corporation (2021–present)
- Expand to cover bookkeeping and administration for two additional corporations over time
- Prepare organized financial statements and transaction records for handoff to the client's accountant
- Coordinate with the client's accountant to ensure records meet their specific formatting and categorization needs
- Transition into ongoing monthly bookkeeping maintenance once the backlog is cleared
