Marketing Automation & Tracking Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Marketing Automation & Tracking Engineer who can independently design, implement, and maintain end-to-end data tracking and marketing automation systems. This role is ideal for someone who is confident working with minimal supervision and takes full ownership of technical execution, accuracy, and delivery.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers marketing, sales, and customer data. This includes ensuring accurate tracking, seamless data flow across systems, and reliable automation that supports business growth.

You will work across tools such as Segment, HubSpot, and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to ensure every customer interaction is captured correctly and translated into actionable insights.

Schedule:

  • Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (Australian Eastern Time, 20 hours per week)

What You’ll Do:

Marketing Systems & Tracking (Core Focus – 70%)

  • Own the end-to-end implementation and maintenance of customer data tracking systems (primarily Segment)
  • Configure and manage Google Tag Manager (including server-side GTM) for accurate event and conversion tracking
  • Ensure all website, app, and platform events are correctly captured, structured, and validated
  • Build and maintain tracking architecture across marketing channels, ads, and product touchpoints
  • Implement and optimize integrations between systems such as Segment, HubSpot, Customer.io, Braze, and related tools
  • Maintain high data integrity through consistent QA, validation, and troubleshooting of tracking issues
  • Develop dashboards and reporting structures that provide reliable marketing and sales performance insights

Sales & Marketing Automation (30%)

  • Build and maintain automated workflows connecting marketing, sales, and product data
  • Ensure seamless lead routing and lifecycle management within CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot)
  • Set up real-time alerts, triggers, and dashboards for sales and customer success teams
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure data is actionable and supports decision-making
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate correct data collection, storage, and flow across systems

What You Need:

Core Technical Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Segment, HubSpot, and Google Tag Manager (GTM)
  • Proven ability to independently implement and manage end-to-end tracking solutions
  • Solid understanding of event tracking, data layer structures, and customer data flows
  • Experience working with marketing automation platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Customer.io, Braze)
  • Strong QA discipline with close attention to tracking accuracy and data integrity
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across multi-system environments

Additional Technical Skills

  • Comfortable working with APIs, webhooks, and JSON
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve cross-platform tracking or integration issues
  • Experience documenting tracking setups, workflows, and system architecture

Soft Skills

  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proactive mindset with strong ownership of tasks and outcomes
  • Clear communication and a structured documentation approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across client or stakeholder needs

Bonus Skills

  • JavaScript experience for custom tagging or tracking implementations
  • CRM experience (Salesforce or advanced HubSpot CRM usage)
  • Understanding of attribution modeling and campaign performance analysis
  • Experience in SaaS, eCommerce, or fast-paced startup environments
