Bookkeeper

Job Description:

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team and take ownership of our day-to-day financial operations. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in both Fergus and Xero, bringing a sharp eye for detail and a proactive approach to keeping our books accurate, compliant, and up to date. Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday, Australia (20 - 34 Hours per week)

Responsibilities:

Xero — Accounting & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Xero
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate entries
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accounted for
  • Manage payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant tax obligations
  • Prepare and file GST/BAS returns in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Generate financial reports including profit & loss, balance sheets, and cash flow summaries
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required

Fergus — Job Management & Invoicing

  • Manage job costing, purchase orders, and supplier invoicing within Fergus
  • Ensure seamless synchronization of financial data between Fergus and Xero
  • Track job expenses and reconcile against budgets to support accurate project reporting
  • Raise and send client invoices via Fergus, following up on outstanding payments
  • Maintain organized records of completed jobs, costs, and financial summaries

General Bookkeeping

  • Monitor cash flow and flag any discrepancies or financial risks to management
  • Maintain an organized digital filing system for all financial documents
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting as required

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, with hands-on proficiency in both Fergus and Xero — this is essential
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, GST/BAS, and payroll compliance
  • High level of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Experience in the trades or service industry is a strong advantage
  • A relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification is preferred

  • This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
