Our client is looking for a high-caliber Canada-US Cross-Border Tax Specialist to join a fast-growing real estate investment group. This is a specialized role designed for a professional who can bridge the gap between complex US and Canadian tax jurisdictions. For most of the year, you will function as a core member of the finance team; however, during tax season, you will shift into high-gear to own the preparation and compliance for Canadian-domiciled partners with significant US holdings. Client Overview
A premier real estate investment firm specializing in capital-efficient ground lease acquisitions across major markets like Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Washington, DC. They manage a complex partner base with cross-border tax needs and are scaling their internal finance function to maintain precision and reduce reliance on external providers.
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, US Eastern Time business hours (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities
- Cross-Border Tax Prep: Prepare US and Canadian personal and corporate tax returns for partners with cross-border investment exposure.
- Documentation Management: Own all supporting schedules, workpapers, and documentation required for accurate filings.
- Compliance Tracking: Monitor and manage tax deadlines across multiple jurisdictions to ensure 100% timely compliance.
- Partner Liaison: Proactively gather income, distribution, and investment data from high-net-worth partners.
- Finance Support: Outside of tax season, support the broader team with bookkeeping, financial reporting, and general accounting tasks.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify and flag potential risk areas related to cross-border obligations and coordinate with external advisors when specialist sign-off is required.
Requirements
- Expertise: Demonstrated experience in Canada-US cross-border taxation (Non-negotiable).
- Tax Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of US federal and state tax codes as they apply to foreign investors.
- Preparation Skills: Comfortable independently preparing complex individual and entity-level returns.
- Technical Literacy: Proficiency with modern financial platforms and document management systems.
- Communication: Professional English proficiency with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly.
- Reliability: High-speed internet and a professional home office setup suitable for handling sensitive financial data.
Qualifications
- CPA qualification or an equivalent accounting credential (Highly Preferred).
- Experience with Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), ground leases, or partnership taxation (A Significant Plus).
- Background working within a Family Office or with High-Net-Worth Individuals (Preferred).
- Strong analytical skills with a "first-time accuracy" mindset.
