General Manager – Credit & Collections

The Role:

This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the executive team. You will be responsible for the end-to-end operational engine of the business, overseeing credit approvals, underwriting, collections, and cross-departmental coordination. You will not only manage day-to-day operations but also shape strategy to support aggressive growth while maintaining compliance and minimizing risk.

The ideal candidate is not a generalist—they are a lending specialist who has walked the floor in operations, understands the nuances of credit assessment, and has successfully led collections teams to maximize recoveries while maintaining ethical practices.

To support this explosive growth and ensure operational excellence, they are seeking a seasoned General Manager – Credit & Collections to lead their core business functions.

You are a seasoned lending operations professional who has spent years in the trenches of credit approvals, underwriting, and collections. Key Responsibilities:

General Management & Strategy

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve company goals and objectives, aligning operations with the company's rapid growth trajectory.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee all departments, ensuring efficient operations and seamless cross-functional collaboration between sales, credit, collections, and compliance.
  • Business Growth: Drive business growth by identifying opportunities to streamline operations, improve turnaround times, and support new client acquisition and service expansion.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, lending partners, and external service providers.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports to the board on company performance, operational metrics, collections effectiveness, and future strategies.
  • Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop department heads, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.

Credit, Underwriting & Approvals

  • Credit Oversight: Oversee the credit approval process, ensuring that lending decisions are consistent with the company's risk appetite and fast-approval business model.
  • Underwriting Excellence: Review and refine underwriting guidelines to balance speed with sound risk management, ensuring that the company maintains its 90% approval rate without compromising portfolio quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that loan contracts are accurate, complete, and fully compliant with relevant laws and regulations in both Australia and New Zealand.

Collections & Risk Management

  • Collections Leadership: Lead and manage the collections team, implementing strategies to minimize delinquencies, reduce arrears, and maximize recovery rates.
  • Legal & Compliance Coordination: Liaise with legal professionals to ensure all collection activities are conducted ethically, legally, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Security Registrations: Oversee the registration and management of securities, including PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register), caveats, and mortgages, ensuring all collateral is properly secured.
  • Direct Debit Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with direct debit providers to ensure smooth and reliable payment collections.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously analyze and improve collections processes, workflows, and strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Stay current with changes in lending regulations and compliance requirements in Australia and New Zealand, proactively adapting operations to remain compliant.

Requirements:

  • Industry Experience: Essential – A minimum of 8–10 years of experience in the lending, financial services, or FinTech industry, with significant exposure to operations, credit approvals, underwriting, and collections.
  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience in a senior management or general management role, with a track record of leading multiple departments and driving operational excellence.
  • Lending Operations Expertise: Deep understanding of the end-to-end lending lifecycle, from origination and credit assessment to collections and recoveries.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong familiarity with Australian and New Zealand lending regulations, compliance standards, and security registration processes (PPSR, caveats, mortgages).
  • Risk Management: Proven ability to develop and implement effective risk management and collections strategies that balance recovery targets with ethical practices.
  • Strategic & Hands-On: Ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on enough to understand and improve operational workflows.
  • Leadership Skills: Exceptional ability to lead, mentor, and inspire teams, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the board, external partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Tech-Savvy: Experience with lending platforms, CRM systems, and collections software is a plus.

  • This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
