Mental Health Intake Specialist

Job Overview:
The Mental Health Intake Specialist plays a critical role in the mental health care process by gathering patient information, assessing immediate needs, and connecting patients with appropriate therapists and resources. This position requires a detail-oriented, compassionate individual who ensures smooth onboarding into mental health services while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and a supportive patient experience.

Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Central Standard Time) (40 hours per week)

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Client Interaction: Greet and interview new patients and families, build rapport, and provide initial support and guidance.
  • Information Gathering: Collect detailed mental health histories, personal backgrounds, current symptoms, and patient goals for care.
  • Assessment & Triage: Screen for urgent needs, assess immediate risks, and determine the appropriate level of care or intervention.
  • Coordination: Schedule appointments with therapists or clinicians, coordinate care, and make internal or external referrals as needed.
  • Administrative Duties: Manage new patient records, perform data entry, and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Documentation: Maintain confidential, accurate patient files in accordance with privacy regulations and organizational standards.
  • Crisis Support: Provide initial crisis intervention and support when necessary, ensuring patient safety and proper escalation.

 Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with patients and families sensitively.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and data management abilities.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, assessment protocols, and crisis intervention preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians and administrative teams.
  • Professionalism, empathy, and discretion in handling confidential patient information.

  • This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
