SEO Specialist

Role Overview:

We are hiring an experienced SEO specialist to become the first dedicated in-house marketing hire of our client. This role is intended for a mid to senior-level professional who has previously owned SEO performance for a business or brand and is comfortable making informed decisions independently.

You will work directly with the business owner and take full ownership of SEO strategy and execution. We value trust, professionalism, and clear communication. Once priorities are aligned, you will have the autonomy to execute without micromanagement.

This role suits someone who thrives in a structured, outcome-focused environment and can perform calmly and consistently, even when timelines are tight.

Work Schedule and Working Style:

  • Part-time role at 20 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, flexible hours within 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Sydney time
  • Work is completed in focused 4-hour blocks, either as a single daily block or split blocks as agreed
  • Clear documentation of work completed, progress, and outcomes is expected

Key Responsibilities:

SEO Strategy and Ownership

  • Develop, execute, and continuously refine SEO strategies focused on rankings, qualified organic traffic, and lead generation
  • Own and maintain an SEO roadmap with clear weekly priorities aligned to business goals
  • Make data-informed decisions and adapt strategy as needed

Technical SEO

  • Audit, prioritise, and manage technical SEO initiatives including crawlability, indexing, internal linking, redirects, canonicalization, structured data, site architecture, and Core Web Vitals
  • Resolve on-site SEO issues directly in WordPress where appropriate
  • Define clear implementation tasks when developer support is required and ensure follow-through

Local SEO (Sydney and Surrounding Areas)

  • Improve local search visibility through service targeting, location relevance signals, and optimised landing page structures
  • Manage and improve Google Business Profile performance with consistent updates and posting

Content and Publishing

  • Plan, create, and publish SEO-driven content aligned to keyword and conversion opportunities
  • Ensure all content and media meet SEO best practices and quality standards

Backlinks (Ethical and High Quality)

  • Design and execute a sustainable, ethical backlink strategy
  • Audit existing backlinks, identify risks, and manage cleanup when justified
  • Maintain a transparent and well-documented backlink register

Reporting and Delivery

  • Provide clear, outcome-focused reporting on what was done, why it mattered, and the results achieved
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work and decisions
  • Deliver consistent progress against goals.

What Success Looks Like:

Within the first 60 to 90 days, you will demonstrate measurable improvements in technical SEO health, search visibility, local performance, content output, backlink quality, and enquiry tracking. You will be able to clearly explain your approach, priorities, and impact.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a mid to senior-level SEO Specialist
  • Demonstrated ownership of SEO performance for a business or brand
  • Strong technical SEO expertise with hands-on problem-solving
  • Proven success in building relevant, high-quality backlinks from authoritative sources
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Search Console, GA4, and professional SEO tools
  • Experience managing SEO content workflows from planning to publishing
  • Experience managing and improving Google Business Profile performance
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work calmly, independently, and effectively under pressure
  • Clear and confident communication skills with non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfort using time and activity tracking tools as part of a transparent remote setup
  • Ability to work in focused 4-hour blocks with clear, documented output

Nice to Have:

  • WordPress experience, including Yoast, Elementor, and basic HTML or CSS
  • Experience working with small businesses or as an early marketing hire
  • Strong local SEO experience
  • Familiarity with AI tools for SEO analysis and content support when used responsibly
