Client Overview: 

A growing UK accounting practice serving 24+ continuous clients across QuickBooks and Xero platforms. The practice is strategically expanding in preparation for the upcoming Making Tax Digital regulations (April 2026) and actively scaling their client base. You’ll work with modern automation tools and cloud-based systems while supporting a forward-thinking accountant who values efficiency and growth.

Job Description: 

You’ll join a UK accounting practice at an exciting growth phase, playing a crucial role in their expansion strategy. This isn’t just another bookkeeping role – you’ll be working with cutting-edge automation tools, supporting Making Tax Digital compliance, and growing alongside a practice that’s scaling rapidly. You’ll have direct access to the practice owner, genuine growth potential, and the opportunity to expand your skills from basic bookkeeping to statutory accounts preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Process purchase invoices through HubDoc automation software (with planned migration to Dext)
  • Perform accurate bank reconciliation across multiple client accounts
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns to HMRC with full compliance
  • Handle Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) work and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain precise bookkeeping records across both QuickBooks and Xero platforms
  • Support Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance implementation for April 2026 regulations
  • Progress to preparing lead schedules for statutory accounts as the role develops
  • Communicate directly with the practice owner for prioritization and client updates

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience with both Xero and QuickBooks
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting practices and HMRC compliance requirements
  • Experience with VAT return preparation and quarterly submissions
  • Solid understanding of bank reconciliation processes and best practices
  • Bonus if you have experience with HubDoc or similar invoice automation tools
  • It helps if you’re familiar with CIS regulations and compliance procedures
  • You bring the ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Strong communication skills for direct client interaction when needed
