Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accountant with 5+ years of experience who owns outcomes—not just tasks. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and clarity of client accounting systems with minimal supervision.
This position is ideal for a highly independent professional who applies sound accounting judgment, proactively solves problems, and delivers clean, review-ready financials. You will work across multiple U.S.-based small business clients and be accountable for producing reliable, well-documented accounting outputs.
Job Highlights
Number of Paid Hours Per Week: 30-40 hours per week
Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Marysville, CA
Work Arrangement: Work from home

Side Note:
Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an “Independent Contractor,” the selected candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.
Key Responsibilities:

Independently code and classify transactions in QuickBooks Online with accurate account selection and clear intent

Perform bank and credit card reconciliations that fully balance to statement source documents

Prepare and post accurate journal entries that tie precisely to underlying transactions and source data

Investigate and resolve discrepancies using transaction details, system reports, and source documentation

Prepare clean, client-ready financial statements, including:

Profit & Loss (Income Statement)
-
Balance Sheet
-
Supporting schedules
-
Review work for reasonableness, including:
-
Month-over-month revenue and expense fluctuations
-
Loan balances and proper principal/interest allocation
-
Asset and liability accuracy and consistency
-
Ensure all accounting work can be clearly understood by another accountant reviewing it in the future

Tie all accounting entries to source documents (no blind coding)
-
Maintain organized digital documentation using Google Drive and Canopy
-
Work across multiple small business clients in different industries
-
Operate with minimal supervision and maintain accountability for completed work
Requirements:

5+ years of professional accounting experience
-
Recent, hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online (required)

Strong practical understanding of:
-
Accounting theory (double-entry accounting, accruals, matching principles, etc.)

Transaction processing and correct chart of accounts usage

Bank, credit card, loan, and clearing account reconciliations

Adjusting Journal Entries (AJEs) tied directly to source data and working papers

Experience preparing and reviewing:

Income Statements (P&L)

Balance Sheets
-
Supporting schedules

Exposure to:

Some A/R and A/P functions
-
Non-GAAP or modified accrual accounting environments

Ability to independently diagnose and resolve accounting discrepancies

Comfortable working across the full accounting lifecycle, not just a single function

Able to work without step-by-step instructions

Strong English communication skills (written and spoken)

Experience supporting U.S. small businesses is strongly preferred

CPA certification is a plus, but demonstrated accounting competence and independent problem-solving ability are more important than credentials
