Job Overview

The HR Compliance & Employee Relations Specialist (AU) independently manages and administers employee disciplinary processes for Australian staff. This role ensures that formal warnings, performance management actions, and terminations are conducted in full compliance with Australian employment law and Fair Work requirements. As the primary HR compliance resource, our client is looking for a specialist to partner directly with leadership and managers to uphold procedural fairness, minimize legal risk, and maintain best-practice employee relations standards. You will be expected to exercise high-level judgment and work autonomously to protect the organization's interests while ensuring a fair environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Disciplinary Management: Independently manage end-to-end disciplinary and performance management processes for Australian employees.
  • Legal Compliance: Assess employee cases and recommend legally compliant actions; draft formal warning letters, show-cause notices, PIPs, and termination documentation.
  • Fair Work Adherence: Ensure all actions comply with the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, and relevant National Employment Standards (NES).
  • Advisory Support: Advise managers on misconduct, underperformance, and employee relations matters; provide guidance on workplace investigations.
  • Documentation & Auditing: Maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready employee relations case files and track disciplinary timelines to ensure procedural fairness.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify and flag legal or compliance risks; escalate complex matters to external counsel when required.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and continuously improve HR disciplinary templates, workflows, and policies based on the latest Australian employment law updates.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in HR, Employee Relations, or HR Compliance specifically supporting Australian employees.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian employment law, including the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, and unfair dismissal processes.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing formal disciplinary actions and terminations in Australia.
  • High level of judgment and confidence working autonomously.
  • Excellent documentation and case management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Law, or a related field (Preferred).
  • Experience working in a remote or fast-paced environment (Highly Regarded).
