Xero Accounts Officer (Australian Payroll)

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Officer to support day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities. You will play a critical role in ensuring timely payroll, invoicing, and financial reporting while continuously contributing to automation and workflow optimization initiatives. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth, compliant financial operations.

Client Overview

The company is a growing services organization supporting multiple business entities, with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and scalable financial processes. Their finance team is the backbone of the organization, ensuring financial integrity across diverse sectors, including community and health services.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sydney Time, with 30-minute paid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations: Reconcile incoming and outgoing financial transactions; prepare and process weekly invoicing (AR) and fortnightly payroll (AP).
  • Compliance & Auditing: Audit and review supplier invoices using custom Excel tools and internal systems; maintain accurate financial records in line with company policies and Australian accounting standards.
  • Collections & Support: Follow up on overdue invoices via email and phone; handle payroll enquiries from workers promptly and professionally.
  • Reporting: Compile financial reports and performance summaries to support management decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Support: Respond promptly to internal stakeholder and frontline worker enquiries related to payments and invoices; communicate clearly with suppliers and partners.
  • Systems Improvement: Ensure all activities are processed through established systems to prevent duplication; identify process gaps and recommend automation or workflow efficiency ideas.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
  • Extensive experience using Xero (Required).
  • Solid understanding of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger functions.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and experience with data-driven tools or custom templates.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive mindset toward automation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience with invoicing and payroll in the NDIS sector (Highly Preferred).
  • In the absence of NDIS experience, payroll experience in Australia within Community Services, Health, Disability Care, or Aged Care is required.

This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement.
