Preparing For Your BruntWork Client Interview
Congratulations on being selected to interview with a client at BruntWork!
This is your time to shine — and your opportunity to evaluate if this role is the right fit for you.
Every client is different, but we’ve put together this comprehensive guide to help you put your best foot forward.
What to Expect
The interview will be conducted via Google Meet or Zoom. It will be hosted by a BruntWork representative and joined by the client.
- At the start, we’ll introduce you and ask why you think you’re a good fit. Prepare a short response — just a few sentences summarizing your most relevant skills and experience.
- The client will then take over and ask their questions.
- The interview should last approximately 20–30 minutes.
- Have at least 1–2 thoughtful questions ready to ask the client.
Professional Appearance
Small presentation details make a big impression.
- Have your camera turned on. Ensure it works beforehand and that you’re familiar with the settings.
- Use the attached virtual background provided by the recruitment team.
- Dress neatly and professionally. No need for formal attire — a collared shirt (e.g., polo or business shirt) is recommended.
- Frame yourself properly — your face should be centered and visible from the shoulders up.
- Use a laptop or desktop computer — mobile phones should only be used as a backup. If you encounter a tech issue, mention it during the call and clarify that it’s temporary.
Clear Audio Quality
- Choose a quiet environment with no distractions.
- Check your microphone using a sound recording app before the interview.
- Use a headset if possible for better audio quality.
Research the Client
- We’ll provide the client’s website whenever available. Please review it to understand their business.
- If the link doesn’t work, reach out to your BruntWork Recruiter immediately.
- Prepare at least 1–2 questions about the role or company — remember, this is also your chance to interview them.
Be Specific and Use Examples
Use real examples from your experience when answering questions. The STAR method helps structure your answers effectively:
- Situation – Provide context
- Task – Describe your responsibility
- Action – Explain the steps you took
- Result – Share what you accomplished
Example Question: “Can you share how you handled a dissatisfied customer?”
STAR Response: “In my customer support role, I once assisted a customer upset about a delayed delivery (S). It was my responsibility to address the concern (T). I explained the delay, apologized, and offered a discount code per our policy (A). The customer appreciated the support and made another purchase shortly after (R).”

Be Honest
Sell your strengths, but never exaggerate. If you don’t have direct experience, relate your transferable skills and willingness to learn.
- Question: “Do you have any sales experience?”
- Answer: “Not directly, but I’ve worked in client account management for 4 years. I maintained 40 accounts for an Australian building supplies company, regularly communicating with clients and coordinating with our sales team. I believe this has prepared me to transition into a sales role effectively.”
Relax and Be Confident
Interviewing can be nerve-wracking, but confidence goes a long way. Practice your responses beforehand and focus on having a conversation rather than reciting a script.
Additional Reminders
- ✅ Use the attached virtual background during your interview
- ✅ Display your full name (not a nickname) in Zoom/Google Meet
- ✅ Never address the client as “Sir” or “Ma’am” — instead, politely ask how they would like to be addressed
- 🚫 Do not use the word “freelance.”
- 🚫 Never say you won’t be paying taxes
- 🚫 Do not share personal information with the client
- 🚫 Do not discuss compensation with the client — bring those questions to BruntWork
- 🚫 Avoid sensitive topics such as politics, COVID-19, etc.
Commitment to the Interview Process
Missing a scheduled interview twice, with or without prior notice, may negatively impact your application status. We respect our clients’ and candidates’ time and expect professionalism throughout the process.
